Accountability international mandates Bayelsa State Governor, Diri to give account of N38bn Public Fund


Anti corruption group in Nigeria, led by Comrade Steven Luke has joined force with Concern Bayelsa Youths (CBY) to call on the federal government to ensure that the Bayelsa State government gives account of its expenditure of the N38 billion reimbursement approved for the state recently.

Last month, the federal government approved the fund as reimbursement for its spending on federal roads in the state.

The approval was granted at the virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, yesterday made declaration that the state received 27billion instead of 38billion. As a group we don't want to drag words with the state government but we are calling on the federal government to publish the details of the amount refunded to Bayelsa as stand for transparency

The CBY convener, Comrade James Ebikeme, on Tuesday, urged the federal government to ensure accountability on the fund.

“The Bayelsa state government should publish details as to how it and what projects the N38 billion would be used for in line with Public Procurement Laws,” the convener stated in a statement obtained by TrackNews Online.

He noted that this would enable monitors to track proper appropriation of the allocated funds.
 
Mr James called on other anti-corruption crusaders to join on a fact-finding mission in ensuring that the Governor Diri-led administration observes all accountability measures in the running of the state.
