Ibom Air saga: Rights Group, OHPRPH, Calls For Thorough Investigation
The Organization for Human and People's Rights Protection and Humanitarian (OHPRPH) has called on the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the recent incident involving Ms. Comfort Emmanson, a passenger on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.
Specifically, the organization emphasizes the imperative of the protection of the fundamental rights and ensuring that justice is served in the matter.
These were contained in a statement signed by the national president of OHPRPH, Comrade Ezekiel Kagbala, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri, Delta State on Tuesday.
The statement expressed deep concern over the treatment of Ms. Emmanson, who was reported to have been allegedly disruptive during the flight.
"The viral video depicting Comfort Emmanson being dragged by airline personnel not only highlights the chaotic nature of the encounter but also underscores the dehumanizing aspects of how she was handled", the statement said.
It continued, "The footage, which shows her upper body being indecently exposed, is a stark violation of her dignity and privacy.
"It is imperative that the Ibom Air officials who filmed and leaked this footage are held accountable for their actions, as they have contributed to a further erosion of Comfort Emmanson's rights.
"Such behavior not only reflects a lack of professionalism but also raises critical questions about the ethical responsibilities of airline staff in managing sensitive situations with respect and compassion.
"Every individual has the right to dignity and respect, especially in situations that may be stressful or misunderstood.
"We urge Minister Keyamo to take this matter seriously and ensure that a fair investigation is conducted. It is crucial that we uphold the rights of all passengers, particularly those who may be vulnerable or facing challenges."
The organization encouraged the public to remain engaged and to support efforts aimed at ensuring justice and dignity for all individuals regardless of the circumstances they may find themselves in.
