What An Insensitive And Unfortunate Act By Hon. Ferguson Onwo To Demolish classrooms At A Time When Schools Are Set To Reopen Next Week.

The Convener of No Jobman for Governor 2023, Comrade Steven Luke, has criticized the member representing Isoko South Constituency II, Hon. Ferguson Onwo, over the demolition of a six-classroom block in Okpolo-Enwhe community, Isoko South Local Government Area, at a time when schools are expected to reopen next Monday.
Comrade Steven Luke, who visited Okpolo-Enwhe community, expressed concern over the timing of the demolition, questioning why the work was not carried out during the nearly two-month school holiday when students were out of school.
According to him, carrying out such a project just days before schools reopen could disrupt academic activities and leave students without adequate classroom facilities.


He said, “There was almost two months of holiday when the students were not in school, yet this demolition was not carried out during that period. Why wait until the school is about to reopen before embarking on the project? What kind of planning is this?”


Comrade Steven described the situation as similar to “digging a fishing pond during the dry season and waiting until the rainy season to bail the same pond.” He argued that proper planning should have ensured that the project was undertaken at a time that would cause the least disruption to students and teachers.


He further questioned whether Hon. Ferguson Onwo would have taken the same decision if his own children were attending the school.

“If Hon. Ferguson Onwo's children were attending this school, would he choose to demolish six classrooms just before the students are expected to return? The welfare and education of our children should come first,” he said.


Comrade Steven Luke urged Hon. Ferguson Onwo to ensure that the replacement classrooms are completed as quickly as possible so that students will not be left without adequate learning facilities when school resumes.

He stressed that constituency projects should be properly planned and executed with the interests of the people, especially students, teachers, and the wider community, at heart.
