ACTIVIST EBIS URGES DELTA GOVT. TO SACK SECONDARY EDUCATION COMMISSIONER, OVER ADEDA’S DEATH , SAYS— ARREST NOT ENOUGH

Rights Activist with the Organization for Human and People’s Rights Protection and Humanitarian (OHPRPH), Comrade Ebis Martha, has called on the Governor of Delta state, RT. Hon. Sherriff Oborevwori to sack the Commissioner for Secondary Education Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu over the death of Mr. Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education.

The Rights Activist Comrade Ebis made the call on Thursday in Asaba, Delta State.

She said, “The arrest of the Commissioner Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu alongside other persons connected to the investigation into the death of Dr. Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, cannot be the end of the matter.

“Where the actions of persons attached to that office have allegedly resulted in the death of a senior civil servant, the Governor cannot be expected to maintain the status quo and simply wait for public outrage to disappear. The Commissioner should be withdrawn from the Ministry and removed from office.

“This is not a call to determine criminal guilt outside the courts. It is a call for administrative accountability, protection of public confidence and respect for the sanctity of human life.
Section 33 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) protects the fundamental right to life, while Section 34 protects the dignity of the human person.

If government cannot guarantee the safety and dignity of a Level 16 public servant within a government ministry, then government must answer the difficult question:

Who is responsible for protecting the people who serve the government?
Dr. Adeda cannot be brought back.
His family cannot be given another opportunity to see him alive.

ARREST IS NOT ENOUGH.
We demand that the Governor of Delta State:
1) Immediately withdraw Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu from the Ministry of Secondary Education.
2) Remove and sack him as Commissioner for Secondary Education.

We the Organization for Human and people’s Rights Protection and Humanitarian therefore ask the Delta State Government to demonstrate that no office is more important than a human life and no public position is more valuable than accountability.
