ISOKO NATION HAS NOT WELCOMED ANY SON-IN-LAW; IT IS THE IDU BODY AND ITS KANGAROO EXECUTIVES THAT ARE WELCOMING THE GOVERNOR AND APC PARTY MEMBERS TO ISOKOLAND.
The Convener of No Jobman for Governor 2023, Comrade Steven Luke, has strongly condemned the leadership of the Isoko Development Union (IDU) over its publication announcing a planned welcome for Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, at Oleh during the official flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign in Isoko South Local Government Area.
Comrade Steven Luke, who is currently in Isokoland, questioned the authority of the IDU leadership to speak on behalf of the entire Isoko nation in welcoming the governor to an APC political event. He maintained that the Isoko people did not collectively authorize the union to present its planned political hospitality as the position of the entire Isoko nation.
Comrade Steven insisted that welcoming Governor Oborevwori to an APC campaign event should not automatically be presented as the collective position of the Isoko people, particularly when there has been no demonstrated consensus among the people authorizing such representation.
He further alleged that the IDU leadership was gradually turning the organization into a political instrument of the APC, rather than maintaining the independence and neutrality expected of a respected socio-cultural institution.
According to Comrade Steven, the IDU was established as an independent, respected, and culturally significant organization expected to protect Isoko interests, defend the welfare of its people, and demand accountability from political officeholders, regardless of their political affiliations. However, he alleged that under the leadership of President Prof. Chris Apkotu, the once-respected institution was increasingly being used to advance partisan political interests rather than address the pressing challenges confronting Isokoland.
